Official Launch of Sharewear Schools

Today was a landmark day for Sharewear: the launch of our new partnership programme Sharewear Schools. This programme is about schools/colleges and Sharewear supporting each other in a variety of ways apart from collecting clothes. These include fundraising, volunteering and lessons given in school on various aspects of clothing poverty, the eco perspective of not re-using clothes, and wider issues connected to the fashion industry and ethical consumerism. The FE sector of our programme was launched by NCN High Pavement, on behalf of the entire college and Bilborough Sixth Form College.  80+ students attended the presentation at NCN as part of their lessons, along with their teachers and the volunteering coordinator; whilst at Bilborough there was a carnival atmosphere in the refectory where the presentation took place, due to the brilliant jazz band performing and a candy floss stand! This was a great place to give out the cupcakes baked for us by Free Cakes for Kids and one of our supporters. All of the  FE students were inspired by a personal message recorded for them by Matt Cooke, (former Bilborough student), who was instrumental in the creation of Sharewear. The secondary sector was launched by Alderman White school, Chilwell on behalf of the entire White Hills Parks Federation Trust (Bramcote School and Bramcote College) with a presentation to Years 7/8 and an interview by two young reporters from their BBC Schools team for their website. The amazing day ended with an assembly at Willow Farm Primary, Gedling, assisted by Sharewear Schools mascot, Paddington Bear! Here we were also joined by Councillor Jenny Hollingsworth and MP Vernon Coaker, who both spoke of how proud they are that young people in the county are supporting our work.  The children all sang Happy Birthday  to mark our 3rd birthday! Each school community has already started working on plans for how we can work together and all  have also provided plenty of immediate contacts and networks to help us to grow, so that we can reach even more people in need in Nottinghamshire.sharewear clothing schemesharewear clothing schemesharewear clothing scheme
