SHAREWEAR
We know that a lack of appropriate clothing leads to isolation and exclusion from social, work and school settings. Having access to clean, well-fitting, and appropriate clothes can make a huge difference to how people perceive themselves, how they are perceived by others and their ability to join in with everyday life.

The process begins with your donations being dropped at one of our four donation banks or three manned donation points Donate Here.
These are then collected by our driver and make their way back to our Clothing Centre for processing.
Every donation is weighed in so we can keep track of the amount of clothing being diverted from landfill.
Our Donation Processors then carefully sort each bag that is donated to us beginning with quality checking. We use the standard of whether we would feel comfortable wearing the garment ourselves or gifting to a family member or friend.
The next step is size sorting these garments before they make their way over to the relevant storage area or are processed into an Outreach Order.
Once carefully sorted, every garment is organised in our dedicated storage space, awaiting the moment it continues its journey to someone in need.
Our volunteers then use these processed donations to stock our rails in our browsing area ready for the next Referral Session.
Clients are welcomed in during our drop-in sessions with their referral vouchers and are supported on site with their browsing. A shopping experience with one vital difference- no till!
Bulk Outreach: We send pre-sorted clothing to partner organisations ensuring they have immediate clothing supplies for those in need. A stipulation of those receiving outreach from us is that all clothing must be free of charge to the recipient. These organisations are based in the East Midlands and South Yorkshire.
Clients are referred by one of our partners. They visit our clothing center which is designed to look and feel like a shop. This allows people to choose clothes that fit their style and personality, preserving their dignity. This is a really important part of the Sharewear ethos as we want to ensure that those receiving our clothing have a nice, supportive experience whilst doing so. The majority of those attending in person reside in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire as do the referring partners.
In 2025 because of our supporters, we provided over 23,000 clothing interventions giving each person between three and five outfits each time. In 2024 this figure exceeded 24,000 interventions. Behind each number is someone facing financial hardship for who your clothing donations and monetary donations to Sharewear made life brighter.
You facilitated children and young adults to attend education in appropriate clothing, also being included in the other school-based events available to them. You dressed people for interview and entry to the workplace. You reduced pyjama paralysis by helping those admitted to hospital to be out of bed and appropriately clothed. You enabled people to get outdoors in all seasons and to enjoy the wellbeing benefits of exercise.
You helped reduce isolation and improved mental and physical wellbeing for many people in challenging circumstances. You enabled the recipients of free clothing to use their scarce financial resources on other areas. You provided staff working within community and voluntary sectors with confidence that the clothing needs of their clients could be met at Sharewear – again enabling them to divert their time and efforts elsewhere to support those in hardship.
As well as the social impact we also measure the positive environmental impact of your support and our work. Last year we diverted over 86 tonnes of clothing from potentially hitting local landfill, this was up from 74 tonnes in 2024. By redistributing this clothing for reuse rather than recycling we are maximising the positive environmental impact of our operation.
Clothes, textiles, and shoes donations that we are unable to make available to those we support due to poor quality are collected by WARD – a family run business local to our HQ. Any items WARD are not able to sell to textiles recyclers or for repurpose are processed into wiper rags or energy from waste, to keep them out of landfill. WARD are full members of the Textile Recycling Association, thus always working to the highest industry standards.
