Refugees to the Aid of Sharewear in Summer

sharewear clothing scheme

We clothed 4 families on site today and a large number of women plus twelve families through our work with other organisations.  Key to our productivity were the number of our refugee and asylum seeker volunteers (and their children!)  who helped at the session. Here are 4 of them helping a white British woman find suitable clothes after falling on hard times.  Whilst so many of our volunteers take well-earned holidays from their paid jobs during this time, our refugee and asylum seeker volunteers make sure that we are able to go on clothing people in need of help all through the summer.

Mr and Mrs Volunteers

Meet Irfan and Abreen , our first husband and wife volunteers, who will be joining us on Fridays in the new year. We still have volunteering roles available if you, like them, would like to help us with our work. Work like we carried out today, clothing five families and making a delivery to the Health Shop of clothes for the homeless to be given out at their Christmas breakfast. Please get in touch asap if you want to join the team.

New Volunteers Join the Team

shearewear clothings scheme

At a very busy session today at Sharewear we clothed five families with members ranging from an unborn baby boy to a 67 year-old grandma.  A visitor from Recycle and Free in Sherwood Facebook group, who support our work , was so blown away by the range and quality of clothing and the numbers of people we were helping that she has put a very emotional post on their group page. And best of all, we welcomed Shaun, pictured, who came for an interview to join us as a volunteer. Shaun is committing to both of our sessions every week and is going to be such a brilliant asset to our team. We still desperately need more volunteers to join Shaun, especially for Friday mornings. You don’t have to come to both sessions every week, but we do ask that you commit to at least one of our time-slots and come at least fortnightly if possible. We need drivers, donations processors, loaders and unloaders, and shop floor assistants. Time slots are Fridays 10am –12.30pm, 11am– 1pm,  1pm –3pm  or Wednesdays 12.30pm — 3pm  Why not make 2017 the year that you join Shaun and the rest of the team?

Drivers Needed

Have you got a couple of hours to spare on a Wednesday or Friday? Sharewear are looking for drivers to deliver our outreach packs and sorted clothes to distribution points across the city. There would also be occasional collection of donations from businesses or people’s homes. The times needed are between 12.30pm and 3pm on Wednesdays, and 10am and 3pm on Fridays. You don’t have to be available for all of this time and it doesn’t have to be every week, although availability on a fortnightly basis would be very useful. Own car needed. Please ring 07724 118666 or email for more information.

Rise Park Primary and Nursery School Help us to go on Clothing Families

rise park donation

This large donation of lovely clothes from Rise Park Primary and Nursery School helped us to provide people in need with clothing on another incredibly busy day. We clothed 8 families on site, totalling 18 people, as well as clothing another 22 by delivery. All your generous donations, big and small, mean that clothing 40 people in one day is easily possible. It was also great to meet with Bill Walton from British Red Cross, who is keen to get some of the refugees he supports volunteering for us.  We DESPERATELY need more volunteers to help us process donations and help clients on Fridays or take on stock management on Wednesday afternoons. Please leave a message in the form below if you are interested. Or drop us an email to or call Louise on 07724 118666
