Two Years of ‘Clothing the Naked’

Sharewear is celebrating its second birthday this month! In March 2014 we opened to service users for the first time with just one rail and a few plastic boxes of clothes. Our logo to start with was this:

Although, these days we have a new, more corporate logo and we have a website and social media accounts, we are still fulfilling our initial aim: to clothe local people in crisis and to live out the blueprint in St Matthew’s Gospel — “I was naked and you clothed me”. Since opening two years ago we have clothed 800 people here in Nottingham, and have also responded to the refugee crisis in Europe and the Nepal earthquake by sending multiple boxes of surplus clothing to those in the greatest need. Since beginning our outreach service in October 2015 we no longer have large amounts of surplus clothes as some of  our stock goes out to various partners across Notts, who help us to reach even more people in need locally. All of this is the result of the hard work of the following people: Jo Tucker, Annette Scholes, Hannah Waker, Teresa McCoy, Matthew Cooke, Angela Cooke, Steve Cooke, Fr Gerry Murphy, Mary Harrison, Jane Chiganga and members of Arise Africa, Jane and John Dineen, Helen McFarlane, Maureen Godfrey, Sarah Sinclair, Esther Brady, Sue Richmond, Alison Rogers, members of Christ the King Sixth Form, Wanda Davison, Chris Burrows, Clara O’Shea, Jean Durkin, Linda Cox, Annette Blair, Melody and Ian. Not forgetting all the people who have helped us with one-off tasks including young people like Josh Siddons and Callum Garratt.  You have all helped our vision become a reality, taking one step at a time, to bring us to where we are today two years on.

Come and help us celebrate our birthday by attending our coffee morning this Saturday 19th March, 10.30 –12.30, United Reformed Church, Brooklyn Road, Bulwell.  Apart from drinks and cakes we have a great selection of new and nearly new items for sale. Hope to see you there!
